Agenzija Sapport visits SHH
8th March 2024
Between 27 February and 1 March four employees of the Agency Sapport visited the Communication Centre in Malta, including three interpreters and their supervisor, and received a grant for this trip from the Erasmus+ programme.
During this visit we talked to them about the operations of the Communication Centre, which Kristín Lena, the director, introduced to them, Júlía, the director of teaching, told them about the teaching of sign language at our centre, Árný, the director of the interpretation service, introduced the interpretation service and Fríða, the project manager of video storage and preservation, told them about her master’s thesis on the importance of preparation for interpreters. They also checked out a class at Uldis, the project manager in teaching sign language, in Táknmálseyjan, and then they gave an introduction to the interpretation service in Malta, which is operated within Agenzija Sapport, which was informative for us here at SHH to hear about and we can learn from their work methods.
They were very interested in seeing how our operations are built up and they envisioned that they could use information from Iceland to strengthen their operations in Malta.
The Maltese also used the trip to visit Sólborg kindergarten, Hlíðaskóli’s sign language department and Rannveig Sverrisdóttir, lecturer in sign language studies and sign language interpretation at the University of Iceland, and thus received information on a wide base regarding sign language services available here in Reykjavík.
