Vigdís in Europe

On New Year’s Day, a new TV series on RÚV about former President of Iceland Vigdís Finnbogadóttir’s life and career opened. In the recent past, Vigdís was also mentioned in a book published by the Hungarian National Archives in celebration of the annual European meeting of national archives and the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of Europe.
The European archives collaborated to select 35 individuals who have made a significant contribution to the common European values, peace and development in Europe. The archives selected documents related to these individuals and written articles about them.
The National Archives of Iceland contributed an article about Vigdís Finnbogadóttir and her influence in Europe, including as the first woman in the world to be democratically elected as head of state. The document was Vigdís’ inaugural speech from August 1, 1984, when she began her second term.
The book was published in print and also in an online publication that is open to all and accessible.
