The Horticultural School - FSu will conduct a vegetation fire prevention course on Thursday, April 10th, in collaboration with the Árnessýsla Fire Prevention Body, Land and Forest Iceland, and Verkís. Registration closes March 31st.
This course is open to the public, particularly beneficial for farmers, forest owners, and summer home owners, or anyone responsible for land management where fire poses a risk to property.
This course will cover:
Legislation and regulations concerning forest and vacation home fire protection.

Fire prevention in forested and agricultural areas.
Buffer zones and vegetation management in these areas.
The importance of roads and trails in cultivated areas.
The necessity of adequate water access.
The following questions will be addressed:
Do varying tree species exhibit different susceptibility to fire?
What is the carbon loss associated with tree mortality due to fire?
Is insurance available for trees or forests?
What equipment and techniques are employed in combating vegetation fires?
What is the location and equipment inventory of the nearest fire brigade?
Is there standardisation in fire brigade equipment across jurisdictions?
What are the initial responses to wildfires, and what preparedness measures should be implemented at summer homes and surrounding areas?
Does the type of vegetation proximate to dwellings influence fire risk?
