University of Iceland and the Global Goals - nature conservation challenges in Iceland

The University of Iceland and its Sustainability Institute will host an event focusing on UN Sustainable Goal 15, Life on Land, on February 5th, from 12:00 to 13:30. The event will address nature conservation, ecosystem protection and restoration, and biodiversity loss.
This event is part of a collaborative series with the Prime Minister’s Office, focusing on critical global challenges. The February 5th session will specifically examine Iceland's nature conservation challenges. The meeting will commence at 12:00 PM in the University of Iceland auditorium and conclude at 2:30 PM, with refreshments served afterward. Admission is complimentary.

Opening remarks by Jón Atli Benediktsson, rector of the University of Iceland.
Tómas Grétar Gunnarsson, director of the University of Iceland Research Center in South Iceland, will present the paper "The challenges of nature conservation in Iceland and the world".
Panel: Bryndís Marteinsdóttir, Department Director of sustainable land use at Land and Forest Iceland, Skúli Skúlason, Professor at Hólar University, specialist at the Icelandic Museum of Natural History and Chairman of the Board of Directors of BIODICE, Stefán Gíslason, environmental consultant, founder and owner of UMÍS ehf. Environice. Þorgerður María Þorbjarnardóttir, Chairman of Landvernd, Jóhann Páll Jóhannsson, Minister of the Environment, Energy and Climate, and Hafdís Hanna Ægisdóttir, Director of the Institute of Sustainability, University of Iceland.
The meeting will be chaired by Hafdís Hanna Ægisdóttir, director of the Institute of Sustainability at UI.
