Air emergency tenders
30th May 2023
Iceland Health is currently working on tenders for domestic ambulance flights, and an advertisement has been published on the bidding website in the EEA area.
It is expected to expand operations from the past few years and the service of air ambulance services will now extend to the whole country, instead of the northern region and the Westman Islands in recent years.
The scope of ambulance flights domestically is constantly increasing and in the last decade the number of tasks has almost doubled. In 2012, the number of projects rose to 452, and last year it rose to 888. The number of ambulance services with Coast Guard helicopters has also increased over the same period, in addition to the number of people on scene due to accidents of various types.
A new agreement on air ambulance services will take effect at the end of the year and will be valid for three years with an authorization to extend for up to five years.
