General
Explosives operators have a permit from the police commissioner to carry out explosives and their use in construction.
Before the police commissioner issues the permit, the applicant must have completed a course at the Administration of Occupational Safety and Health.
Rights
There are two types of rights:
A-rights: For all explosives work.
B-rights: For specialised and limited uses of explosives specified in the permit. Examples include explosions in metal-melt furnaces and explosions for research purposes, for example for the measurement of crust.
Validity
5 years.
Renewal is for another 5 years.
How to become an explosives operator
You complete a course at the Icelandic Occupational Safety and Health Administration and pass the necessary exams.
You apply for a permit from the police to handle explosives and handle explosions.

Certificate issued
When the certificate is ready, applicants will be contacted by email. Operators must carry the certificate on them at all times.
