Municipal financial aid

Application for municipalities financial assistance

Each municipality has its own rules on financial assistance, based on the laws on social services.

Such financial assistance is temporarily granted to those who do not have other income.

You can apply for financial assistance to the municipality where the applicant has legal residence.

Before applying for financial assistance to a municipality, you must have checked your right to other assistance, for example to unemployment benefits, payment from sickness funds, pension funds and from the Social Insurance Administration. In the application process, various information is requested, for example, about your residence and income for the last three months. Applicants will receive an e-mail when the application has been reviewed, or if there are no additional data.

Most municipalities use the above process for processing applications for financial assistance. If your municipality is not one of them, you will receive instructions on where you can go to your local authority.

Regarding the processing of applications for financial aid:

  • If an application is accepted, the applicant will receive payment at the next month.

  • If an application is rejected, the applicant will receive an explanation of the decision. If the applicant feels that the explanation is not satisfactory, it can be referred to the Welfare Committee, with the assistance of a social worker.
